Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo Recognized with PEMAC’s Asset Management Team of the Year Award

Mississauga (December 3, 2025) –  PEMAC Asset Management Association of Canada presented the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo with the 2025 Asset Management Team of the Year Award during this year’s PEMAC Awards ceremony held in Calgary, Alberta as part of the MainTrain conference. The ceremony celebrated excellence in the maintenance, reliability and asset management profession.

The Asset Management Team of the Year Award recognizes and celebrates Canadian teams—whether within a single department or across departments—that have demonstrated meaningful progress toward establishing robust asset management practices. Although these teams may not yet have achieved full maturity in their programs, they have clearly defined what success looks like and have implemented the fundamentals—such as policy frameworks, asset registers, risk management, preventative maintenance, or Asset Management Plans—aligned with organizational objectives and international standards.

The award recognized teams that can translate strategy into tangible asset decisions, leadership, governance, metrics, and cultural change, while actively moving the needle toward comprehensive asset management.

“The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo stood out for its strong alignment of asset management practices with organizational goals and its clear focus on value creation. The team demonstrated a comprehensive approach—engaging stakeholders, navigating complex regulatory requirements, and building breadth and depth across all aspects of asset management. Their journey reflected a commitment to continuous improvement, starting in 2014 and achieving a milestone of a dedicated Asset Management team in 2024,” shares Cliff Williams, member of PEMAC’s Award Committee. “In the face of significant challenges, including natural disasters and governance changes, their ability to implement an asset management policy, framework, and strategic plan while fostering a culture of resilience is truly impressive.”

“Our progress isn’t about technology, it’s about people coming together with a shared commitment to provide reliable, high-quality services to our residents,” shares Kushmeela  Lochee, Asset Management Coordinator, Corporate Services for Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.
