Mississauga (November 5, 2025) – PEMAC Asset Management Association of Canada honoured Bill Mercer with the Sergio Guy Memorial Award during its recent PEMAC Awards ceremony held in Calgary, Alberta as part of the MainTrain conference. The ceremony celebrated excellence in the maintenance, reliability and asset management profession.
This highly regarded award is named after one of the visionary individuals who laid the foundation for the organization and made significant contributions to the profession. Prior to his early and untimely passing, Sergio was highly regarded both personally and professionally for his values, ethics, and commitment. He dedicated many hours in the early days of the association, helping to develop the first member database to manage the business aspects of the association.

As a Senior Advisor at Capital Power in Edmonton, Alberta, and current treasurer of the PEMAC Board of Directors, Bill exemplifies all the award characteristics. Prior to joining the Board, Bill has been contributing to PEMAC for over a decade, first engaging with the then Alberta Chapter in 2013, and continuing to participate in many initiatives and committees over the years. A recent milestone was Bill’s leadership with the development of both the Audit and Risk and Human Resources Committees of the Board which have been transformational. Bill also contributes to the World Partners in Asset Management (WPiAM) Risk Committee and now serves as a PEMAC’s representative to the Global Forum for Maintenance and Asset Management (GFMAM). He also represents PEMAC on a GFMAM project examining the impact of asset management on sustainability and the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) framework.
“Bill has been a cornerstone of leadership and innovation within PEMAC. With a deep well of knowledge and experience, Bill has consistently elevated the organization through his strategic insight and collaborative community-building spirit,” states Nigel D’Souza, President of PEMAC Board of Directors. “His leadership, humility, and dedication make him an outstanding candidate for this recognition.”
“I was not expecting to receive this type of recognition, as I’ve never really felt to be in the same league as those who have been awarded in the past. I volunteer with PEMAC as a way of giving back and helping where I can. It has taken several decades for me to gain the knowledge I have now, and it is only by sharing this and supporting others that I can see that it has value.” shares Bill.
