Mississauga (October 9, 2025) – PEMAC Asset Management Association of Canada has initiated the development of a Shutdown Turnaround Management Professional education and certification program that will address a critical gap in asset management training. The launch of the development phase has moved closer given this initial funding and industry support from Graham.
The program will consist of a series of 6 to 8 courses focused on key areas of such as strategy planning, scheduling, risk management, budgeting, quality control, and contract management. Designed for professionals involved in small to large Shutdowns, Turnarounds, & Outages (STOs), the program will culminate in a capstone project, which will enable participants to apply learning to manage STO's more efficiently saving billions of dollars. Successful completion of the program will lead to a professional certification, the only of its kind.
“Shutdowns, turnarounds, and outages are among the most complex, costly, and high-stakes operations in industry. Yet, there is currently no standardized training or certification program for managing these events in Canada,” shares Ron Bettin, co-chair of the PEMAC’s STO certification program development committee. “This initiative will provide industry-leading, peer-developed curriculum to set the standard and transform STO management in Canada.”
PEMAC is inviting interested parties to engage with this initiative through sponsorship opportunities, contributing subject matter expertise, and/or share training content, to shape curriculum relevant across all industry sectors.
