Fort McMurray Chapter Learns Assets Under Pressure

More than 30 members and guests joined the PEMAC Fort McMurray Chapter on March 11 for an engaging evening of professional development and networking at the Water Treatment Plant, focused on managing assets under pressure.

The session featured Justin Canning, Manager of Asset Management, Insurance Services, and GIS for the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, who shared insights from Fort McMurray’s flood event and its impact on critical water infrastructure. Drawing on his extensive experience, Justin highlighted the realities of maintaining essential public services during disruptive events and the importance of preparedness, resilience, and strong asset management practices.

Attendees gained a deeper understanding of what it takes to ensure reliability in public infrastructure, from planning and risk management to coordinated response and recovery. The discussion reinforced how sound asset management supports continuity of service when it matters most.

The evening also provided a valuable opportunity for participants to connect, exchange experiences, and reflect on shared challenges across asset-intensive industries.

A strong turnout and thoughtful discussion made this a memorable event for the Fort McMurray Chapter and a clear example of the value of learning from real-world experience.
