This is very exciting news for maintenance, reliability and asset management professionals in Atlantic Canada!

Joanne Firth is an Industry Liaison Officer at Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC), where she plays a key role in developing research partnerships between industry and applied research teams, including projects in clean energy and sustainable technologies. Drawing on extensive industry relationships, Joanne connects Nova Scotia businesses with NSCC’s five Research Scientists, whose expertise spans Energy, Engineered Technologies, Data Science, Environment/AgTech, and Geomatics. Her work helps organizations innovate, improve productivity, and adopt sustainable, asset-conscious practices. With more than 20 years of experience in post-secondary industry engagement, Joanne brings a practical, business-focused approach to collaboration. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and an MBA from Saint Mary’s University.

Matt Adams has been with NSCC since 2024 as Manager, Workforce Development based in Halifax. He covers a variety of sectors in the province, including manufacturing, IT, sciences (clean technology, environmental, forestry and others) and government departments.

His current role as Manager of Workforce Development helps facilitate relationships between industry and NSCC with a focus on customized training solutions to support an organizations needs and the growth of their employees. Matt enjoys facilitating the connections required within NSCC to support training for a company’s staff, while also making them aware of ways to get engaged with Applied Research as well as students and faculty from our core programming.

Prior to joining NSCC Matt worked in the pharmaceutical industry both as a research scientist, and more recently as a Manager of Commercial Operations. Matt has experience facilitating research and training between academia and industry, where he became passionate about workforce development.
