Call to Action: Exponential Growth is not Inevitable

Category:

COVID-19, is here and many regions across Canada are beginning to implement bold strategies to limit its spread.  Most of these strategies come down to some form of "social distancing" and they are very important to protect the world's human assets, especially the most vulnerable in our communities.

Exponential Growth is not inevitable.

This excellent video explains the math behind the social distancing strategy and the importance of implementing it early:

The PEMAC staff and Board of Directors are monitoring the situation closely and considering our approach. At present this is where we stand:

  • Chapter leaders have been encouraged to assess the risk of upcoming events and manage it appropriately depending on their region.
  • We are communicating with partner teaching institutions to learn about their strategies and to ask whether we can offer assistance with business continuation to keep course participants learning.
  • We are working out a continuation strategy for the FCM-sponsored AMP Course 1 offerings that are currently open for enrolment.
  • Given the September timing of our annual conference, MainTrain, we have the opportunity to develop creative contingencies and build them in. So at present we are continuing to work on MainTrain 2020 preparations.

PEMAC members excel at proactive risk identification and risk mitigation. Calling all "Canadian leaders in asset management", our nation needs you now. The best outcome for our economy in the long term is to protect people in the short term. We urge our PEMAC associates to contribute by arming yourselves with reliable facts and data and by arising as leaders and role models during these intense times.

Sincerely,

Cindy Snedden, P.Eng
PEMAC Executive Director

Updates March 16, 2020:

Asset Management Program for Municipal Teams

PEMAC and our teaching partner, Northern Lakes College, have adjusted the delivery method of AMP Course One. Originally intended as face to face offering, AMP Course One will now be delivered live online. Courses 2 through 6 will be delivered as asynchronous online courses as we had always intended.

MainTrain 2020

Given the September timing of our annual conference, MainTrain, we have the opportunity to develop creative contingencies and build them in. So at present we are continuing to work on MainTrain 2020 preparations. This is especially true of present efforts to solicit Abstracts. No matter what happens next we will certainly be able to connect interested speakers with interested audiences through online means.

Until April 30th the Hilton Saint John is offering 100% refundable reservations. If you are thinking of attending as a delegate this is a great no-risk window of opportunity to book your room.
