Speaker

Chi-Guhn Lee is a Professor of Industrial Engineering and the Director of the Centre for Maintenance Optimization and Reliability Engineering (C-MORE) at the University of Toronto. His research interest includes reinforcement learning, Markov decision process, deep learning, supply chain optimization and physical asset management. Recent and on-going projects cover topics such as transfer learning, domain adaptation and Bayesian learning. He has worked closely with private firms including Nestle, LG, IBM, General Motors, Magna International, Fujitsu, State Grid Corp of China to name a few.

Topic

Demystifying Machine Learning - Hands-on Workshop Using Excel

Machine learning has been very successful in a wide range of applications such as supply chain, finance, security and physical asset management. However, the notion of machine learning is still elusive, undermining its practical value in relation to its potential. In this workshop, we will demystify machine learning and walk the audience through its basic steps using a simple linear programming model. The hands-on workshop will rely only on an excel spreadsheet after covering basic mathematical equations including gradient descent.
